Frances Boer, 101, of Boyden died Monday night, Dec. 29 at the Prairie View Home in Sanborn.

Funeral service were Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Protestant Reformed Church in Hull with the Rev. Steven R. Key officiating. Burial was in Sheridan Township Cemetery of Boyden.

Mrs. Boer was born in Berlikum, The Netherlands, on Nov. 28, 1902, to Marten and Tietje (Damstra) Hoekstra. As a child she immigrated to the United States with her family. They settled on a farm near Sheldon where Frances attended country school. On Feb. 26, 1926, she married John Boer. They first lived near Sanborn before moving to their farm south of Boyden in 1940. They made their home in Boyden in 1956. He died Sept. 25, 1988.

She was a member of the Protestant Reformed Church of Hull. She moved to the Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon where she made her home before becoming a resident of the Prairie View Home in Sanborn in April of 1996.

Survivors are two sons, Pete Boer of Sanborn and Don Boer and his wife Lyla of Hull; daughter-in-law Dorothy Boer Schumacher and her husband Rudy of Holland, MI; eight grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Gertrude Hoekstra of Sanborn; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her son, Marten Boer; her daughter-in-law, Kathleen Boer; two grandsons; and three brothers, Pete, Dan and John Hoekstra.

The Boer family requests memorials be made to Western Christian High School of Hull.
