Died: August 19, 2003, Inwood, Iowa

Henry Berentschot, 81 of Inwood, died Tuesday August 19, at Fellowship Village at Inwood.

Funeral service was Friday at Christian Reformed Church, Inwood, with the Revs. Bob Timmer and Rich Kooistra officiating. Burial was at Richland Cemetery.

Berentschot was born October 23, 1921, in Halle, The Netherlands, son of Evert Jan and Hendrika (Westerveld) Berentschot. He attended a farming trade school in the Netherlands. He worked at an elevator after school.

He married Christiana Van Dyk on Dec. 11, 1947, in Leersum, Netherlands. They immigrated to the United States in 1949. They moved first to Maurice where he worked as a hired hand for area farmers for three years. They then moved west of Sioux Center where they began farming. In 1960, the family moved northwest of Inwood and farmed there until 1975 when they moved to Inwood. He ran a poultry business until his retirement in 1994. He enjoyed retirement by taking time to help his sons on their farms.

He was a member of Inwood Christian Reformed Church, where he had served as a deacon and elder and was a member of the Men's Society. He enjoyed reading and loved spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife; eight children and their spouses, Hennie (Glenn) Serck of Inwood, Willie (Dennis) Wrede of Sioux Falls, Erv (Lee) Berentschot, Chris (Kel) Faber, Gracie (Roger) Bootsma, Harley (Marilyn) Berentschot, all of Inwood, LeRoy Berentschot of Rock Valley, Brian (Caren) Berentschot of Inwood; one brother and wife, Gerrit and Teun, and one sister, Tina Rougoor, all of the Netherlands; a special friend, John Vande Pol of Sioux Center; 22 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Johan and Jan; and one grandchild.
