Born: 1916
Died: June 12, 1944

Mrs. Jane Den Ouden received a message from the war department last Saturday that her son Pfc. Jake Den Ouden had been killed in action on the battlefield in France on June 12. He was 28 years old.

He had been in the service about two years and left the states shortly after having had a furlough last February, which was spent with his mother here and with relatives at Springfield, South Dakota where he made his home before entering into the service, and the family has had no word from him since the time he left the states.

Besides his mother he is survived by three sisters, Mrs. McCann of Redwood City, California, Mrs. Bert Vander Brake of Sioux Center, and Jacoba Den Ouden of Sylan Lake, South Dakota and also three brothers, Cornelius a farmer at Springfield, South Dakota, and the other two in the service, John who is a military police at Seattle, Washington, and Pvt. Frank who is stationed somewhere in the South Pacific.

The News wishes to join the community in expressing its sincere sympathy to the family in their loss of a son and brother.
