Died: March 12, 2008Richard Gerritson, 91, of Muskegon, Michigan, formerly of Rock Valley, went to be with his Savior on Wednesday, March 12.
Services were 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at First Reformed Church in Rock Valley. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery, Rock Valley.
Gerritson was born January 17, 1917, at Rock Valley, son of Arie and Bessie (Vogelaar) Gerritson. He married Florence Wanningen on September 19, 1942.
He worked for the Iowa State Highway Commission from 1950 until his retirement in 1982. He was involved in prison ministries, M2 program, various nursing home Bible studies and the Rescue Gospel Mission for more than 30 years. He continued his lay preaching past his 91st birthday.
Survivors include two daughters, Mona (Ed) De Wit of Inwood and Denise (John) Van Berkum of North Muskegon, Michigan; five grandsons; a granddaughter; seven greatgrandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; a sister, Wilma Kruizenga of Buckley, Washington; and a brother, Gerby Gerritson of Hull.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Florence; his only son, Larry, in 1958; a sister; and three brothers.
