A loving, faithful wife and mother was removed from our midst by the hand of Death when on Wednesday evening, July 19, the angel carried away the spirit of Mrs. Alonzo Riley. She had been ill several weeks during which time loving relatives and friends watched faithfully her bedside. The funeral was held at one o'clock Thursday afternoon, the service being at the house, conducted by Rev. Plummer. A large number of friends and acquaintances followed the remains to the cemetery.

Martha G. Jackman was born in Concord, New Hampshire, on the 20th day of March 1817. At the age of twenty she with her parents moved to Norwick, O., were they lived for a short time moving from there to Indiana. On the 23rd day of August 1837 she was united in marriage to Mr. Alonzo Riley. She and her husband then moved to Illinois where nine children came to their home. Only two are left to survive her.--P. A. Riley, of Rock Valley and Mrs. Estella Davison, of Redfield, Io. In 1859 they came to Iowa in which state they have since resided. They moved to Sioux county in 1881 and came to Rock Valley nine years ago where they lived ever since until the time of her death.
