IRETON -- Elvira M. Kading, 94, of Ireton, died Thursday, Dec. 22, 2005, at Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden.

Elvira Kading was born Feb. 1, 1911, near Maurice, the daughter of John and Mary (Onken) Toenjes. She graduated from Ireton High School in 1928 and attended teachers college in Cedar Falls. She taught in rural schools near Ireton before her marriage to Paul Kading on Aug. 16, 1933, at the St. John's Lutheran Church near Ireton. They farmed southeast of Ireton and later farmed and fed livestock near McNally. They moved into Ireton in 1966.

Paul died on Jan. 4, 1996. Elvira continued to live at home until moving to the Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden on May 15, 2005.

While living on the farm. Elvira was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church near Ireton, where she taught Sunday School and was in the ladies aid. They transferred their membership to St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ireton when they moved into town. She continued to be an active church member, being involved with the ladies aid. She enjoyed collecting her salt and pepper shakers.

Elvira is survived by two daughters, Marlene Eilts and her husband, Vernon of Ireton and Paulie Juffer and the late Dr. Arlin Juffer of Sibley; a brother, Wendell Toenjes of Le Mars; six grandchildren, Jeff Eilts and his wife, Missy of Ireton, Jim Eilts of Mesa, Ariz., Paul Juffer and his wife, Paula of Des Moines, Julie Juffer of Des Moines, Mary Jo Judd and her husband, Kevin of Minneapolis and Matt Juffer and his wife, Amber of Des Moines; six great-grandchildren, Ben and Nick Juffer, Nate and Luke Juffer and Mallory and Madalyn Eilts; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son-in-law, Dr. Arlin Juffer; brothers, Harold Toenjes and a sister, Thelma Toenjes.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ireton with the Rev. Marcel Kohlmeyer officiating. Burial will follow in the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery near Ireton. Visitation will begin at noon on Monday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Monday evening at the Porter Funeral Home in Ireton.

Memorials may be directed to the St. Paul's Lutheran Church or the Lutheran Hour Ministry.

Elvira M. Kading, 94, of Ireton, died Thursday, Dec. 22, 2005 at the Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden, Funeral Service was Dec. 27 at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ireton with the Rev. Marcel Kohlmeyer officiating. Burial followed in the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery near Ireton. Porter Funeral Home in Ireton assisted the family with arrangements.
