Timothy Paul Altena, 40, Sioux Center, died Wed. June 17, at Sioux Center Hospital, after an eight-year battle with cancer.

Services were Sat. June 20, at First Reformed Church of Maurice, with the Rev. Wayne Sneller officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center, under the direction of the Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center.

Tim Altena, son of Don and Carol Altena of Sioux Center, was born Sept. 27, 1968. He attended Sioux Center Christian School and graduated in 1987 from Western Christian High in Hull. He attended Dordt College in Sioux Center for one year.

He married Sherri Dekker on June 18, 1988, at First Reformed Church in Maurice. They made their home in Sioux Center and he began working at Tyson Foods in Sioux Center.

He was a network administrator at Diamond Vogel Paint in Orange City for the past eight years.

He was a member of First Reformed Church in Maurice since his marraige. In his free time he enjoyed playing cards, working on computers and spending time outdoors hunting and fishing with his family. He also found enjoyment in car races, especially sprint cars at Knoxville.

Survivors include his wife, Sherri of Sioux Center; three children, Ashley and Barry Staples of Sioux Center,and Rick and Amber Altena at home; his parents, Don and Carol Altena of Sioux Center; a brother, Kent and Laura Altena of Polk City; his parents-in-law, Paul and Joan Dekker of Maurice; foster mother, Schera Kraft of Le Mars; and a brother-in-law, Brian and Chris Dekker of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Paul and Margaret Altena, Gerrit and Ollie Bruxvoort; and foster father, Dick Kraft.
