Funeral services were held at the First Reformed Church here at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, October 9, for John de Herder, 71, prominent Sioux Center retired farmer and a life-long resident of the community, who died Monday at the Sioux Center hospital of cancer of the liver. He had been a patient at the hospital about two months.

Services were conducted by the Rev. P.A. DeJong and burial was made in the Sioux Center Community cemetery under the direction of Vander Ploeg’s Funeral Home.

Mr. Den Herder was born in Sioux Center January 12, 1897. He was married to Marie Vermeer July 29, 1921. The couple farmed near Sioux Center for many years until retiring and moving to Sioux Center. He was a World War I veteran.

Survivors include a son, Gerald, of Hull; a brother, Henry, of Sioux Center; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
