John Zomermaand Sr. 85, of Holland, MI. died Sunday, Feb. 12 at Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids, MI.

Funeral services were Wed. Feb. 15, at Calvin Christian Reformed Church in Holland with the Rev. Chip Byrd and Conley Zomermaand will be officiating. Burial was in Lakewood Cemetery.

He retired from West Ottawa Public Schools, Van Wieren Hardware and Coast to Coast Stores. He was a veteran of Wold War II serving in the Army Air Force. He was a member of the Reformed Heritage Community Church. He served as a consistory member, Sunday School teacher and catechism teacher in several churches.

He is survived by his wife of 63 yeares, Gertrude; and children, Nelda and Mark Briggs of Holland, John Zomermaand Jr. of West Springfield, Mass, Barb and Dan Wehrmeyer of Holland, Randall and Debbie Zomermaand of Coral Gables, FLA. Les Zomermaand of Grand Rapids, MI, Conley and Patricia Zomermaand of Xenia, Ohio, Michael and Barbara Zomermaand of Canton, MI; 14 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Gerrit and Johanna Zomermaand and Henrietta and Oepke Niemeyer of Iowa, Mrs. Martin (Nellie) Mesman and Mrs. Gerrit (Alice) Topp of CA, Rolena and William Wissink of Iowa, Albertha and Case Van Hofwegen and Hattie and John Boeve of CA, and Mrs. Bert (Ann) Vander Wege of Zeeland MI; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Bert (Pearl) Zomermaand and Bertha and Marv Sjaarda of Iowa; and many nephews, nieces and cousins.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Holland Salvation Army.
