DEATH OF GREGORY SAFELY
Husband of Former Hawarden Lady Passed Away at Valley Junction. Word has been received here of the death of Gregory Safely of Valley Junction, Iowa, on Oct. 18th, following short illness, although he had been ailing for some time.

His widow was formerly Mrs. Sadie Brooks Newton and made her home in Hawarden for number of years. She is a-sister-in - law of W. C. Newton of Hawarden and was well known in this city. Her first husband was Chas. Newton, a pioneer Hawarden resident, who lived here until his death.

Mr. Safely was born in Linn county, Iowa, Nov. 10, 1870. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Safely, moved to Lohrville, Iowa, when he was 10 years old. He graduated from the Lohrville High school after which he took a position in a drug store. Later he was employed by the Dixon Lumber Co. at Lytton, Iowa, but for the past nineteen years has been connected with the H. M. Itis- -Lumber Co. at Valley Junction.

He was united in marriage with Mrs. Sadie Brooks Newton June 20, 1915, who, with one daughter, Mrs. James F. Gilbert of Chicago, one son, Robert Newton of Valley Junction, a sister, Mrs. Scott Rutledge of Early, Iowa, and a nephew, Scott Safely of Minneapolis, survive him. Mr. Safely was prominently identified in. business and Masonic circles in Valley Junction and was a man of sterling qualities and high ideals.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Valley Junction on Oct. 21st with Rev. A. T. .Bishop in charge. Interment was made at Glendale cemetery with the Masonic lodge in charge of the burial service.
