Died: March 19, 2003 Rochester, Minnesota

Mrs. Nelvina Zicafoose, 82, of Austin, MN. formerlly of Alton, passed away Wed. March 19, 2003, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tues. at First Reformed Church in Orange City, IA, with the Rev. Chris Holck officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery, Orange City. Arrangements are being directed by Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Nelvina Geraldine was born July 11, 1920,near Alton, the daughter of Gerrit and Reka (Top) Van Es. She graduated from Newkirk (Iowa). High School, attended Northwestern College in Orange City and Minnesota State University in Moorhead. She received her master's degree in library science from the University of Minnesota.
In August 1943, she married Lawrence Earl Zicafoose in Nebraska. They made their home in Nebraska, Iowa and Minnesota, where Nelvina was an elementary school teacher. In 1976 she retired as the Brooklyn Center (MN) High School librarian. In retirement, Nelvina and Lawrence spent their summers at their lake home in Starbuck, MN. where she liked to entertain family and friends. They spent their winters in their mobile home in Homestead, FLA. Lawrence passed away April 25, 1993, in Austin.

Nelvina enjoyed fishing, crocheting and reading her Bible, daily devotionals and Christian periodicals. In later years, she often played table games with family members, including some of her great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her three stepsons and their wives, Earl and Alice (Hansen) Zicafoose of Austin, Darrell and Shirley (Krueger) Zicafoose of Spencerport, N.Y. and Harvey and Thelma (Dahl) Zicafoose of Austin; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother and his wife, Jack and Pat (Johnson) Van Es; a sister and her husband, Winifred (Van Es) and Ivan Muilenburg, all of Orange City; and nephews and nieces.
