Sioux County Capital February 5, 1987

Naomi Helen Gunderson, fifth child and second daughter of Charles L. and Dena C. Gunderson, passed away in Orange City on February 3, 1987.

She was born January 23,1895, near Rolfe, Iowa, and attended the Rolfe schools where she became valedictorian of her graduating class. She received her B.A. and Master degrees from the University of Iowa, where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega and Mortar Board.

For many years she taught foreign languages in the Iowa and California high schools. Naomi was a member of P.E.O. and Delta Kappa Gamma. She was a contributor for many years to the University of Iowa Foundation, and was a life member of the SUI Alumni Association. She belonged to the American Reformed Church of Orange City.

Services were held at the Van Etten-Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City with the Rev. Marlin Vander Wilt of the American Reformed Church officiating. Graveside services were held in the Clinton-Garfield Cemetery at Rolfe with the Rev. John Irwin of theRolfe Presbyterian Church in charge.

One sister, Ruth Vande Steeg, of Orange City, and three brothers, George, Arthur and John, preceded her in death. Survivors include a sister, Martha Boggs, of Pasadena, California, and many nieces and nephews, including Mary Vande Steeg Sheridan of Cincinnati, formerly of Orange City, and Deane Gunderson of Rolfe, Iowa.
