Death of Herman Wilts, Jr.

Herman Wilts, Jr., died at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Wilts, living south of town, Tuesday, Jan. 3. Herman never had been a well boy and of late has been troubled with consumption, which was the cause of his early death. Besides his parents he leaves three sisters to mourn his departure. The funeral was held at the Friedens Gemeinde Church south of town and the remains interred in the cemetery near by.

From the Alton Democrat, January 7, 1899: Rock Valley News:
The only son of Herman Wilts died on Monday of this week. He was about eighteen years of age and had been an invalid for many years.

(From the 1895 census of Plato Tsp, Sioux County IA: Herman Wilts 51, wife Mary Johnson 56, Jennie/Tena? 23 b. in Ill , Katie 21 born in Ill, Herman 17 born Ill, and Minnie 8, born Ill. In 1900 Herman and Mary lived in Plato township with daughters Tina, Kate and Minnie, In 1925 Herman was a widower living with daughters Tena 55 and Kate 53.)
