Hawarden Independent, September 15, 1910

I. N. Goin, a well known resident of this city, died suddenly Saturday afternoon from heart failure. He was pitching off a small load of hay at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. J. Anderson, south of town and she was assisting him in caring for it in the hay mow when the attack came on. She noticed him drop to his knees on the load of hay and inquired what was the matter. He replied that he felt faint. She ran for a cup of water for him and when she returned she found that he was dead. He had been troubled with some affection of the heart for some time and had repeatedly said of late that when his time came to go he would go quickly. The funeral was held at the Presbyterian church in this city Tuesday afternoon and the services were conducted by Rev. T. A. Ambler, pastor of the church.

The deceased was born in the State of Kentucky, Nov. 30, 1850. When a child he went with his parents to Mercer county, MO, where he lived several years and then moved to Shenandoah, Iowa. Here he was united in marriage to Miss Annie Houts. To this union four children were born, two of whom are still living, Mrs. J. J. Anderson of Hawarden and Isaac N. Goin, Jr. of Ireton. His first wife died in 1886, August 17, 1889, he was united in marriage to Mrs. M. J. Anderson of Blythedale, MO. One son, Ralph, was born to them. Soon after their marriage they came to LeMars, Iowa, where they resided for about nine years, moving from there to Ireton where they resided 7 or 8 years. About two years ago they came to Hawarden and have since made their home here. Mr. Goin was marshal of Ireton for several years and while an officer there gained considerable prominence in detective work. He was deputy marshal in this city for nearly a year and resigned his position last spring. He was a man of strong convictions and was unswerving in the discharge of all duties where he believed himself to be in the right.

He is survived by his wife and three children, two brothers, G. B. Goin of Charter Oak, and W. P. Goin of Battle Creek, Iowa, and one sister, Mrs. Lushbaugh of Lineville, Iowa.
