Mrs. Thos. Ausmussen died at her home in this city Monday morning after an illness of several months at the advanced age of 78 years, 2 months and 23 days. Funeral services were held at the German Lutheran church Wednesday afternoon, Rev. G. Hoelscher preaching the funeral sermon. Katherine Helena Gefke was born in the province of Sleswig, Germany, May 4, 1836. She was baptized and confirmed in the German Ev. Lutheran church in her early life and continued a faithful member of the church unto her death. She was united in marriage in Germany to Thos. Ausmussen on March 18, 1863. In 1877 her husband came to America and she followed one year later. They came direct to Hawarden and have made their home in this city ever since. Besides her aged husband she leaves two sons and one daughter to mourn her death. Grandma Ausmussen, as she was familiarly called by all who knew her, was kind and obliging to everyone about her and was dearly loved and esteemed by all her friends and acquaintances. The bereaved husband and children have the sincere sympathy of the community in their hour of sorrow.
