Hawarden Independent of May 17,1984

Mrs, Lester Coats Mrs. Lester (Lillian) Coats, 81, Ireton, died May 11, 1984, at the Hawarden Hospital after long illness. Services were Monday, May 14, in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Ireton. The Rev. Paul Sieveking officiated. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery under direction of Dow Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Douglas Coats, Walter Treiber, Tunis Vollink, Paul Venard, Marvin Kots and Earl Degen.

Mrs. Coats, the former Lillian Degen, was born September 9, 1902, near Ireton. She married Lester Coats May 18, 1966, at Council Bluffs. She was a resident of the Ireton area all of her life. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her husband, Cherokee; two step-sons, Donald Coats, LeMars, and Gerald Coats, Stockton, CA; a step-daughter, Mrs. Albert (Joyce) White, Council Bluffs; two sisters, Elsie Hand, Hawarden, and Mrs. Joe (Alvena) Richardson, Elk Point, SD; a brother, Ed Degen,
Hawarden; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
