A Young Life Ended.

The sad news reached Hull, last Friday evening, that Harry Steinberg aged 18 years and 25 days son of our former townspeople--Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Steinberg--now of Salem, Oregon was dead and would be brought here for burial. Harry was [a] bright, pleasant young man and well known and liked by all who knew him. We can add nothing to the notice published in the Oregon Statesman, as it gives it in better words than we could have put it, and which is as follows:

The deceased was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. H. Steinberg, who removed here from Iowa last June. The cause of death was typhoid fever, the young man having been sick less than a month. He was a student of the high school, a bright, clean and promising young man and his death has caused much sorrow. He is survived by his parents, one brother and four sisters. The body will be taken to Hull, Iowa, for burial, probably leaving tomorrow.

The deceased was popular in the ranks of the high school classes and played football on the second team. Six of the high school boys will act as pall bearers. The senior class met yesterday and after being called to order by President Jennie Fry, a committee of three, consisting of Winona Savage, Nellie Sykes and Walter St. Pierre, was appointed to draw up resolutions expressing the sentiment of the class, of which he was a member. The committee reported the following, which were adopted by the class:

"Whereas it has seemed best to the Divine Providence to remove by the hand of death our friend and classmate, Harry Steinberg,
"Be it resolved, by the Senior class of the Salem High School, while we will miss him from our school life and activities we express our most heart felt sympathy to those who have sustained a greater loss and from whose home circle has been taken a loved son and brother.
[line smudged]
resolutions be spread upon our class records, and that copies be sent to the bereaved family, the local papers and the Clarion."

Mr. Steinberg arrived with the remains of our young friend, Monday afternoon and the funeral took place Tuesday p.m., in Hope cemetery, friends, the scholars of three upper rooms of the school and the Woodmen taking part in the ceremonies. The many friends of the bereaved family join in extending sincere sympathy.

Mr. Steinberg authorizes us to say that he deeply appreciates the kindness of the Hull people and wishes that he could grasp each and every one by the hand and thank them for it, and ask them to accept this public acknowledgment of the same in lieu thereof as he was unable to do so.
