Gertrude DeGroot Balkema 101, of Denver, CO, died Oct 15, 2004. Gertrude was the wife of Peter Balkema. They lived in Orange City from 1924-1964 and then moved to Denver. They ran the Balkema Sales and Service, a plumbing and heating business from their home and shop where Kraai Furniture now stands.

Gertrude and Peter were members of the American Reformed church while living in Orange City. The couple had a son James who reside in Englewood CO with is wife Monita and family.

Gertrude had four grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She was also the sister of Case DeGroot founder of Casey's bakery in Sioux Center.
