Mrs. Mary Jane Baysinger, one of the pioneers of this vicinity, did at the home of her son Wm. Baysinger Tuesday [February 18], after a lingering illness of several months.
The deceased was born in Laport county, Indiana, Sept. 5, 1839 and at the time of her death had reached the ripe old age of seventy-three years, five months and thirteen days. At the age of twenty years she was married to Carper [i.e., Casper] Baysinger and in 1883 came with her husband and children to Sioux county where she has lived for the past thirty years. Her husband died fifteen years ago and since that time she has lived with her son. Her home was blessed with eight children two of whom died in infancy. Those living are: Wm Baysinger, Rock Valley; Mrs. Clara Martin, Eliot, N. D.; Mrs. Laura Jillson, Stuart, Neb.; Mrs. Tilla[?] Wood, St. Paul, Minn.; Mrs. Lydia Grioen, Wilmont, Minn.; and Mrs. Dora Hillmer, LeMars. Besides six children and other relatives she leaves to mourn one brother, Wm. Wilson of Rock Valley.
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon from the Methodist church conducted by Rev. C. H. Young and the remains were laid to rest in the Valley View cemetery. The bereaved relatives have the sympathy of many friends in their loss.

The Hull Index, February 28, 1913, Rock Valley news, adds that for several years she suffered a slight stroke of paralysis, and gives her brother's name as Henry Wilson.

Mrs. Mary J. Baysinger, an old and respected resident of this community, departed this life at the home of her son, William Baysinger, six miles northwest of Rock Valley February 18, 1913. The subject of this sketch was born in Laport county Indiana Sept 5, 1839, and was therefore aged 73 years, five months and thirteen days when she died. She was married to Casper Baysinger and in 1883 they came west and located on a farm six miles northwest of town, where she has continuously resided till her death. She was bereft of the companionship of her husband some fifteen years ago. After his death she found a home with her son, who tenderly administered to her wants, and endeavored to make her life pleasant. She was the mother of eight children, two having died in infancy. She leaves six children and one brother, Henry Wilson, of Rock Valley to mourn her departure. She was a kind mother, a good neighbor and had many friends. For several years she was closely confined to her home, having suffered a slight stroke of paralysis, after which she had little opportunity to mingle in society. Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist church Thursday afternoon February 20th after which she was cinsigned[sic] to the last home of man in Valley View cemetery. The friends have the sympathy of the community in their hour of sorrow.
