Died: December 9, 2006 Remsen, Iowa

Frank De Vries, 83, Orange City, died Saturday Dec. 9,2006 at Happy Siesta Nursing Home in Remsen.

Services were Tues. Dec. 12, at First Reformed Church in Orange City, with the Revs. David Ter Beest and Nathan De Vries officiating. Burial was at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City, under the direction of Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Frank De Vries, son of George and Jennie (Siebersma) De Vries, was born Dec. 20, 1922, in rural Orange City. He attended country schools and Sioux Center High School. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Force, where he was an aviation engineer. He married Ruth Vanden Berge on Dec. 14, 1944, in Sioux City. They made their home in Orange City, where they first farmed for five or six years. He then was the owner and operator of the American Legion Bowl and Cafe in Orange City. He became a real estate agent and auctioneer in the Orange City area in 1970. He moved to Happpy Siesta Nursing Home in Remsen in Oct. 2005.

He was a member of First Reformed Church in Orange City, where he had served on the consistory as a deacon. He also was active in the Orange City community as a member of the Pressman-Kosters American Legion Post, the Lions Club, the board of directors of the Industrial Development Corporation and the Tulip Festival Committee, including one year as chairman. He enjoyed golfing, playing cards and snooker, and fishing and hunting.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth De Vries of Orange City; a daughter, Mary and Willard Van Vugt of Orange City; a son, Franklin and Jan De Vries of Sioux Falls, S.D.; six grandchildren: a brother, George and Kathleen De Vries of Orange City; and a sister-in-law, Joyce De Vries, of Orange City.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers, Lucy and Ben Fedders, Elmer and Dena De Vries, Steve De Vries and his wives, Eva and Marge, Etta and Henry Harmelink, Marion and Ruby De Vries, and Cornie De Vries.

Memorials may be directed to Northwestern College in Orange City; Orange City Home Health and Hospice or the Alzheimer's Association.
