DIED: Monday at 12:12 o'clock, Mrs. C. Vae[i.e., Van] de Velde, of cancer of the breast. She leaves a husband and eight children to mourn her death. The funeral was held Tuesday from the Dutch Reformed church and was largely attended. Rev. Huizenga preached the sermon. We join with the many friends in extending heartfelt condolence to the sorrowing husband and family.

(The spelling of the surname may be Vander Velde, the more common form. The Sioux County Cemetery Index does not have either a C. or a Mrs. C. Vander Velde or Vande Velde; or anyone else by those surnames who died in 1897. There are a Mr. and Mrs. H. Vande Velde, no birth or death dates given, buried in Valley View Cemetery, Rock Valley.)
