Brad Corlett, 17, of Hawarden, died Saturday, Aug. 6,1983, at his residence Services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9, 1983, in the West Sioux High School auditorium with Rev. Robert Hansen, pastor of the American Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery in Hawarden, under the direction of the Dow Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Kyle Kircher, Matt Hummel, Brian Donahoe, Scott Dimmick, Denny Hulshof, and David Gebauer.
Brad was born on Sept. 18, 1965, in Flandreau, SD, and moved to Hawarden with his family in 1974. He graduated from West Sioux High School in 1983. He was active in football, baseball, basketball, wrestling and golf. He was a member of the 24 Singers at West Sioux High School and a member of the Elmridge Boys, a local quartet. He was also active in school plays and high school musicals. He spent four years on the student council and the annual staff. He was a homecoming king candidate.He was a member of the American Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his father, Darrell of Hawarden, his mother, Mrs. Harold (Gloria) Jensen, of Flandreau; stepmother, Sue Corlett; one sister and two brothers, Brenda and Blaine, at home; and Brian, Yankton, SD; a grandmother, Mrs. Elthida Corlett, Brookings, SD; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Orville Michelson, Mitchell, SD; a greatgrandmother, Mrs. Goldie Welch, Mitchell; and three step-brothers, Scott, Jeff and Mark Lerdal, Hawarden.
Dr. E. M. Eneboe, deputy medical examiner, said Brad's death was a suicide.
