Elmer De Vries, 83, of Orange City, died Monday, December 30 at the Orange City Municipal Hospital. Elmer was born September 19, 1908, at Sheldon, the son of George, Sr. and Jennie (Siebersma) De Vries.

On July 12, 1935, he married Dena Johanna Kleinhesselink at Orange City. They farmed at Newkirk most of their married life. In the late 1970s they moved to a farm near Orange City. Mrs. De Vries died September 28, 1981 at Sioux City. In October of 1991, Elmer moved into Orange City. He was a member of the First Reformed Church of Orange City.

Survivors include his two daughters, Joyce and her husband Cleo Te Slaa, and Gladys and her husband Peter D. Jeltema all of Orange City; two sons, Darwin E. and his wife Mary of Kingsley, and Glenn R. and his wife Yvonne of Alton; 11 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; four brothers, Steve, Frank and George Jr. all of Orange City, and Cornie of Alton; and two sisters, Lucy Fedders and Mrs. Henry (Etta) Harmelink both of Orange City.

In addition to his wife, Dena, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Stanley D. and brother, Marion.

Funeral services were held Thursday, January 2 at the First Reformed Church of Orange City. The Rev. Steven Vander Molen officiated. Interment followed at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City under the direction of the Van Etten-Oolman-Van Gelder Funeral Home of Orange City.
