Funeral services for Charles Earl Gourley, 81, were held Saturday, July 2, 1983, at St Mary's Catholic Church in Hawarden. He died June 29 at McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Fr. William Carel officiated at the funeral mass.Burial was at St Mary's Cemetery, Hawarden. Pallbearers were John Burke, Rex Smith, Dale Smith, Sidney Brown, Raymond Groth and T.E. Quarnstrom.

Mr. Gourley was born October 11,1901, to Theresa and James Gourley at Hudson, SD. His education was received from schools in Sioux County. He married Ruby Duncan at Rock Valley on June 28,1928, and they farmed in the Hudson vicinity. Ruby died on November 3,1956. On November 17,1982, he married Lulu Dawson at Beresf ord, SD, and continued farming until retiring on July 5, 1978, when he moved into Hudson. Mr. Gourley served on the Hudson School Board and was a member of the Hudson Community Club, the Knights of Columbus and St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hawarden.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and eight sisters. Survivors include his wife, Lulu, of Hudson; one son, Charles, Jr., of Santa Barbara, CA; one daughter, Mrs. Lyle (Cheryl) Wegner of Fremont, NE; two stepsons, Tom Dawson of Monroe, SD, and Quentin Dawson of Casper, WY; one step daughter, Mrs. Duane C. (Sondra) McKee of Sioux Falls, SD; one twin sister, Mrs. Olaf (Polly) Lode of Hudson; 15 grandchildren and one greatgrandchild
