In Memoriam - Gerrit Grooters

Services for Gerrit Grooters, 100, Villa Park Care Center, Fort Dodge were at 10:30 a.m., Dec. 16 in Calvary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Doug Olson, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Lake City Cemetery. Mr. Grooters died Friday evening, Dec. 12, at Villa Park Care Center, Fort Dodge.

Surviving are his wife, Millie, children, Mrs. Tom (Estella) Brown, Grapeland, Texas; Dr. John Grooters, Longmont, Colo.; Robert Swarthmore, Pa.; Mrs. Edward (Helen) Moon, Fort Dodge; and Howard, Santa Barbara, Calif.; 10 grandchildren and 17 greatgrandchildren.

Mr. Grooters was born June 26, 1880, at Boyden and attended Orange City Academy at Orange City. He married Kittie Birdsell in 1909, and they lived in Rockwell City and Fort Dodge, then operated a hardware and implement store in Vincent for a time. The couple later farmed in Louisiana and then in Greenleafton, Minn. They lived in Iowa Falls for a while before moving to Fort Dodge in 1935. Mr. Grooters was a salesman for Bakers Medicine, Watkins Products and Red Ball Products, then for Murphy Feed Products as a district representative. Mrs. Grooters died in 1960.

In 1962 he married Millie Ruby. He was a parking attendant at First National
Bank until retiring.
