De Vries, Herman, 1868-1937

DEVRIES, DEVLOIS OR DEVALOIS

Mr. Herman De Vries was born in Zaandam, Netherlands in 1868. At the age of 22 he migrated to this country. He was united in marriage to Johanna De Vlois or De Valois in 1896 and lived around Hull for several years during which time he was manager of Schoenman's Lumber yard. His family was running a farm at the same time. He suffered a stroke from which he never fully recovered in 1935, but was able to be around and do a little work in the yard.

Last week Wed. he was in town in the morning and in the afternoon was found unconscious from another stroke which took his life Saturday, March 13. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife, 7 children, Mrs. Anna Bos, Mrs. Kathryn Van Batavia, Cornie and Wilfred of Hull, Steve of Doon, Mrs. Esther Post of Brewster, MN, Mrs. Lucille Meyer of Alvord besides 7 grandchildren and his aged father, three sisters and four brothers. A host of friends also mourn his passing.

Last fall on Oct. 15th they celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. Mr. De Vries was a good businessman and loved by all who knew him. Funeral services were held on Tues. from the house at 1 o'clock and 1:30 from the First Reformed Church. Pall bearers were Frank De Roos, Frank Mak, Hein Vreeman and John Vande Stowe.
