Died: May 1, 1996 Sioux Center, Iowa

Gerdena De Vries, 91, of Sioux Center, died on Wed. May 1, at Sioux Center, Community Health Center. Funeral services were at Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center on Saturday, May 4, with the Rev. Robert Drenten officiating. Burial was at Memory Gardens Cemetery.

At the funeral service, Bud Vreeman sang "The New 23rd" Organist was Karen Vreugdenhil. The congregation sang "What a Friend" and "Amazing Grace."

Casket bearers were Francis De Boer, William Gene Heynen, Bill Rens, Hank Roghair, Herlan Schut and John Vreugdenhil.

Mrs. De Vries was born to Gerrit and Christine (Kosters) Vreeman on August 24, 1904, near Doon. She married Lou De Boer on Feb. 3, 1926. They farmed for several years and then moved to Sioux Center where they owned the sale barn, Gerdena running the lunch room. Lou died in 1967. She married Wiebe De Vries on Jan. 14, 1969. Wiebe died in 1980. Mrs. De Vries moved to Franken Manor in 1984, and made this her home until she moved to Sioux Center Nursing Wing.

Survivors include one son-in-law, Verdean Wynja, of Orange City; grandchildren, Lyle and Pam De Wit of Ireton, Kevin and Sandi Wynja of Sioux Center, and Scott and Melanie Wynja of Sheldon; three great-grandchildren, Shawna, Jason and Cassandra De Wit; three sisters, Bertha and Marinus Rensinnk, Ella and Gordon Den Herder and Etta Heusinkveld, all of Sioux Center; brother-in-law, Henry Heynen of Sioux Center; three sisters-in-law, Una De Boer of Crookston, MN, Sena Vreeman of Sheldon and Marie Shepherd of Edgerton, MN.

She was preceded in death by four daughters, Theresa, Christina, an infant baby and Gloria; four brothers, John, Hein, Dick, Bill and three sisters, Christine, Gertrude, and Lenora.
