Hawarden Independent, May 29, 1913

John Gordon a former well known business man of Calliope, died last week at his home in Canada. Mr. Gordon was engaged in the milling business here for a number of years in partnership with A. G. Ensign. A number of years ago he disposed of his interests to Mr. Ensign and returned to his former home in Canada. He was a kindly old gentleman and made many friends while here. The Woodstock, Can., Sentinel-Review gives the following account of his demise:

The death occurred at the village of Embro on the morning of Tuesday, May 20th, of one of Oxford county's oldest and most highly esteemed residents, in the person of John Gordon, who passed away following a brief illness caused by a paralytic stroke, aged 88 years. The deceased had been a resident of Embro district for many years, coming to Canada from Scotland and settling in Oxford county when quite young. The deceased was a bachelor and is survived by three nieces and three nephews. They are Mrs. Hay of Pottersburg, Miss; Mrs. Rose of Benton Harbor, MI; Miss Jennie Munro of Embro; D. Munro of Edgerton, Mich; Robt. Munro of Berkley, CA, and C. H. Munro of Embro. The funeral will take place on Thursday afternoon from his residence to the North Embro cemetery.
