Obituaries

Dr. C. J. (Jim) Schroeder. 87. Of Rock Valley, died Tuesday June 7, 1994. at his residence. Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rock Valley with Father Donald R.Smith officiating. Burial was at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Rock Valley. Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley was in charge of arrangements.

Dr. Schroeder was born Sept. 5, 1906, in Alton. Iowa, the son of Peter and Frances (Gillen) Schroeder. He graduated from St Mary's Academy in Alton and from Creighton University Dental College in 1929. He married Margaret Akin April 14, 1935. He practiced dentistry in Rock Valley until his retirement in 1981. Margaret died Aug. 8,1986.

Dr. Schroeder played semiprofessional baseball and softball for various Northwest Iowa ball clubs; be was an avid bowler, golfer and fisherman. He helped organize and sponsor the Rock Valley Golf and Country Club. He served on the Rock Valley City Council, was a charter member and past president of the Rock Valley Rotary Club, and was a member of the American Dental Association.

Survivors include two sons, James Michael and his wife Karen of Le Mars, Iowa; and Matthew John of Saranac Lake, N.Y.; two daughters, Sharon Donovan of San Diego, Calif.; and Ellen Schroeder of Austin, Texas; three grandchildren, Mary and Kristin Schroeder of Le Mars; and Shannon Donovan of San Diego, Calif.; two brothers, Ivo of Spirit Lake, Iowa; and Robert of Palm Springs. Calif. Dr. Schroeder was also preceded in death by a sister, Marcene McCormack; and a granddaughter, Natalie Schroeder.
