James Leroy "Roy" RozeboomMr. Roy Rozeboom, age 66, of rural Boyden, died Wednesday, Dec. 23, at the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull. Funeral services were held on Monday, Dec. 28, at the First Reformed Church in Hull. The Rev. Verlyn Boone officiated. Interment followed at the Hope Cemetery in Hull.

James Leroy, who was known as Roy, was born May 24, 1932, in rural Rock Valley, the son of Tony and Jenny (Roskamp) Rozeboom. He was raised in the Carmel area and served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. On June 2, 1955, he married Mary Jane Van Batavia in Hull. They made their home at Sioux Center until I960, when they moved to a farm between Hull and Boyden, where they have since lived and farmed. He was an active member of the First Reformed Church, where he served on the consistory as an elder and a deacon, served as a Sunday School superintendent and teacher, served as a catechism teacher, and sang in the choir. He was currently the commander of the
Wegman-Koele American Legion Post in Hull. He had served on the boards of directors of the Sioux City Gospel Mission, the Hull Cemetery, the Hull Co-op Gas and Oil, AMPI, and the Pork Producers. He was a former member of the Hull Kiwanis and was involved in the M-2 prison ministry in Sioux Falls, S.D.

In 1981, Mr. and Mrs. Rozeboom were named Parents of the Year at Northwestern College in Orange City. He enjoyed his family, friends, community activities, and sports, especially Softball.

Survivors include his wife; four sons and their wives, Tim and Michelle Rozeboom of Parker, Colo., Jay and CarolRozeboom of Rock Rapids, David and Carol Rozeboom of Boyden, and Mike and Crystal Rozeboom of Hull; 10 grandchildren; seven sisters, Marie Mouw and Pearl Timmer, both of Sioux Center, Kathryn Wielenga of California, Wilma Tiemeyer of Caledonia, Mich., Margaret Brock of Grand Rapids, Mich., Arlene Bidwell of Sioux Center, and Marilyn Vander Esch of Port Huron, Mich.; one brother, Tony Rozeboom, of Zeeland, Mich.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his parents-in-law, Lewis and Johanna Van Batavia. Memorials are being directed to the Women's and Children's Shelter of the Sioux City Gospel Mission
