Obituary for Mildred "Millie" H. Vant Hul from Oolman Funeral Homes.

Mrs. Mildred Vant Hul, age 84, of Alton, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, April 6, 2014, at the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City. Her passing leaves a deep void. While there is sadness for the earthly family she leaves behind, there is joy in knowing she is now fully and eternally reunited with the many loved ones waiting to greet her in heaven. For that we celebrate.

There will be a funeral service on Saturday, April 12, at 11:00am, at the Alton Reformed Church in Alton. The Rev. Kent Vant Hul and the Rev. Scott Bonestroo will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the Nassau Township Cemetery near Alton. Visitation with the family will be on Saturday from 9:00am to 10:45am at the church.

Arrangements are with the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Mildred Helen was born on September 29, 1929, in rural Orange City, the daughter of Henry and Minnie (Kiel) Kramer. She was raised at Orange City.

On January 29, 1946, she married William Morel Vant Hul in Orange City. They were blessed with seven children. They lived at Carnes, Alton, and Sioux Falls, South Dakota, before settling in Doon. In the early 1980s, they returned to Alton. “Bill” passed away on September 26, 2007, in Alton, after more than 61 years of marriage.

In 2012, “Millie” moved to the Landsmeer Ridge Retirement Community in Orange City, and in December of 2013, she transferred to Prairie Ridge.

She was a member of the Alton Reformed Church, where she participated in Bible studies and circles.

Mrs. Vant Hul was a homemaker, a secretary, and a truck driver, but most importantly, a care giver. She cared for her husband, especially as his health declined, and her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed helping others and was employed at the Hope Haven Residential Training Center in Orange City. At Landsmeer and Prairie Ridge, she often helped other residents with tasks they found difficult.

Millie enjoyed visiting with friends. She liked flowers and had gardens for which she cared for each year. Mostly, she loved visits from her family. The grandchildren, and then the great-grandchildren, knew where “Grandma’s toy drawer” was located, and watching the little ones play made her very happy.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, the Rev. Kent and Wanda “Wendy” Vant Hul, of Cedar Grove, Wisconsin; and Mark and Kathy Vant Hul, of Alton; two daughters and their husbands, Lynne and Don Dreesen, of Slayton, Minnesota; and Jan and Dan Plesher, of Sioux City; two sons-in-law, Dr. Rodney Schuller, of Le Mars; and Dr. Gerald Van Es, of Sioux Center; fourteen grandchildren and their spouses and 26 great-grandchildren, Dr. Matthew and Dr. Kim Schuller, Alexander, Benjamin, and MacKenzie; Heather (Schuller) and Adam Nemer, Jack, Max, and Teagan; Dr. Nicolas and Amy Van Es, Owen, Ellison, and Kai; Dr. Joseph and Heather Van Es, Ty, Elizabeth, Isabelle, Jett, and West; Eric and Sue Vant Hul, Brittany, Felicia, and Evan; Troy and Sarah Vant Hul, Tyler and Alison; Eva (Vant Hul) and Sean Bulian, Kyla, Ella, and Aiden; Jaclyn (Vant Hul) and Tom Paplow, and Ethan; Rachae (Vant Hul) and John Jensen, and Quade; Brittany Dreesen; Brandon and Rachel Dreesen; Ross and Amanda Small, Mason and Evan; Luke Plesher; and Olivia Plesher; a sister, Dorothy Draayer, of Orange City; and four sisters-in-law, Alma Kramer, Frances Van Gorp, Emogene Raak, and Dawn, and her husband, Dennis Beltman.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three children, Virginia Schuller, Mary Van Es, and Wayne Vant Hul; two brothers, Henry and Steven Kramer; three sisters, Hermina Otten, Jennie Vande Berg, and Jessie Vande Griend; and other close relatives.

Memorials will be directed to the Orange City Area Home Health and Hospice and the Alton Reformed Church.
