Died: 1939

Charles A. Anderson, well known North Western Employee and a long time resident of Hawarden, died at the Community Hospital in Hudson, South Dakota, Monday night, following an illness of several year’s duration. He was taken to the hospital about three weeks ago, where his condition grew steadily worse until death ended his sufferings at 10:15 that night.

Charles Albert Anderson was born in Sweden on April 16, 1883, and was one of a family of ten children. He came to reside in the United States as a child and had spent the remainder of his life in Hawarden, with the exception of eight years spent in California.

On February 3, 1923, he was united in marriage with Mona Bemiss-Walters at Leeds, Sioux City, Iowa. Besides his wife he is survived by two brothers, John Anderson of Ridgeway, Colorado, and Gust N. Anderson of Huron, South Dakota; and six sisters, Signa Brandow of Sioux City; Alma Passehl of Hawarden; Florence Mitchell, Sioux City; Vivian Larson, Redfield, South Dakota; Lillian Smith, Topeka, Kansas, and Evelyn Lawton, Topeka, Kansas.

In early youth Mr. Anderson entered the employee of the railroad and was employed in that occupation to the time of his death, at which time he was a switchman in the local North Western yards. During the past two years he had been compelled to leave his work at various times on account of sickness.

He was a member of the Hawarden Masonic Lodge and of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen, taking deep interest in both organizations.

He was a fine, upright man and was held in high esteem by an unusually large circle of friends, who join in extending sympathy to the bereaved ones.

Funeral services will be held at the Associated Church this (Thursday) afternoon at 2:30, with Rev. T.H. Harding in charge of the service. Burial will be made in Grace Hill Cemetery, where the Masonic order will have charge of the service.
