Jerold P. Salberg, operator of Jerry's Jewelry in Hawarden, died on Monday, Dec. 24 in a Sioux City hospital at the age of 56 after a brief illness.

Salberg had come to Hawarden in 1954 and opened Jerry's Jewelry. He had attended a watchmaking school in Memphis, Tenn. and had operated a business in Orange City and Beresford, S.D. He married Marilyn Jensen on Oct. 15, 1949 at Luverne, Minn. He was born on June 6, 1923 near Vermillion, S.D. He was a member of the Hawarden Chamber of Commerce, Trinity Lutheran Church and had founded an archery club several years ago.

Services were held on Friday, Dec. 28 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Rev. Dwight Rengstorf officiated. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery.

Survivors include the widow; two sons, Gary and Rick, one daughter, Tamara, all of Hawarden, three grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. Grace Salberg of Beresford; three brothers, Harlan of Beresford, Stuart of Chicago and Earling of Minneapolis, Minn.; and two sisters, Mrs. Mildred Voog of Centerville, S.D. and Mrs. Catherine Gray of Fort MiSuris, Colo.
