Larry D. Popken, 47, of Sioux City, passed away March 15, at Sioux City. Services were at 11 a.m. Thursday at Redeemer Lutheran Church. The Rev. Paul C. Mueller officiated. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery at Hawarden Under the direction of the W. Harry Christy Funeral Home in Morningside.

Mr. Popken was born March 3, 1933 in Le Mars. He moved to Hawarden and was graduated from the Hawarden High School. He graduated from Bradley University of Illinois at Peoria, IL, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1961. He married Carole L. Haines June 24,1952, at Pipestone, Minn. They moved to Sioux City where he was employed by Van Buskirk Construction from 1959 until, the time of his death. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and was building chairman of the fellowship hall of the church that was built on the original Lakeport address.

Survivors include the widow; two sons, Rick of Bloomfield, Colo, and Christopher at home; four daughters, Mrs. Nancy Palmer of Clarksville, Tenn., Mrs. Sherry Sparks of Rancho Cordove, Calif., Miss Vicki and Miss Jennifer, both at home; 4 grandchildren; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Popken of Hudson, SD; two brothers, Bruce of Elma, Iowa and Jim of Atlanta, Ga.; and one sister, Mrs. Lynn (Loraine) Thorpe of Valentine, Neb.
