Hawarden Independent, February 6, 1958

Funeral services for Carl Schwiesow, 74, were conducted at Trinity Lutheran Church, Monday afternoon with Rev. O. F. Pittack officiating. Interment was in Grace Hill cemetery with the Barnard Funeral Home in charge.

Carl Johann Daniel Schwiesow, one of nine children born to Hellimuth and Katherine Schwiesow was born on November 1, 1883 at Malcolm, Iowa, and at an early age he accompanied his parents to a farm in Plymouth county.

On February 2, 1906 he married Anna Specht and two years ago he and his wife celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in the presence of many relatives and friends.

Mr. Schwiesow was engaged in farming near Akron for about 28 years. In 1934 he moved to Chatsworth where he operated a garage. Ten years later he and his wife came to Hawarden where he worked in his sons' garage and filling station and affiliated with the local congregation.

About two years ago he suffered a light stroke from which he recovered sufficiently to be up and around. On July 6, 1957, however, he suffered a severe stroke which caused him to become bedfast and partially paralyzed until the time of his death Friday afternoon.

Preceding him in death were a son, Marvin, who died in infancy, his parents, and five brothers and sisters.

Surviving ate the widow, Anna; five sons, Hellmuth, Carl and Henry of Hawarden, Elmer of Ponca, NE, and William of Hollywood, CA; two daughters, Mrs. Irene Peterson of Sioux City and Mrs. Mildred Banghart of Burbank,CA; 22 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, two brothers, Henry of Omaha and John of Ashland, WI, and one sister, Mrs. Lizzie Trafford of Lodi, CA.
