Mrs. Arie Steenhoven (Nee Lena Damhof) was born December 29, 1847 at Wensum in the Province of Gronigen in the Netherlands. She came to America with her parents in May 1881, and settled at Albany, New York, where they resided about five years. In April of 1886 they moved to Maurice, Iowa, where she grew to womanhood, and made confession of her faith in her Lord and Savior and joined the Reformed Church at Maurice. Here she was united in marriage with William Talen on October 14, 1893. They resided there for a few years, after which they lived in this vicinity several years. From here they moved to Pease, Minnesota and later to Ogilvie, Minnesota, where they resided until William Talen’s death, four years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Talen were active in their church work. Mr. Talen at one time was elder in the Roseland church. Together they were active in Sunday School work having established Sunday Schools in Milaca and Kanibec counties in which they served as superintendent and teachers. To this union seven children were born one of whom died in infancy, and was buried in the Roseland Cemetery. Another daughter, Anita (Mrs. Hyo Kiel) preceded her mother in death four years ago. The children surviving are: Louis at Seattle, Washington; Edward at Chicago, Illinois; Clarence at Rochester; Jean (Mrs. Art Smith) at Seattle, Washington; and Wilma (Mrs. Ralph Greenfield) at Zumbroota, Minnesota.

Mrs. Lena Talen was united in marriage with Arie Steenhoven of Sioux Center, Iowa, last October. They resided at Sioux Center, till the time of her passing away, March 19, 1947.

She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, Arie Steenhoven, her five children, several grand and great grandchildren, and also four brothers and three sisters, Jennie (Mrs. Arent Boldt) at Prinsburg, Minnesota; Gerald, Carrie (Mrs. Louis Van Den Einde), William, John, Abigail, Mrs. Edward E. Williams, and Jacob, all of Roseland.
