Willard John Veencamp of Owatonna, MN., died January 22 at Owatonna Health Central Hospital. He was 54.

Willard Veencamp was born July 25, 1931 in Sioux Center. He graduated from Sioux Center High School. On June 21, 1952 he married Carole Grooters in Orange City. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955. Following military service, he and his wife Carole, graduated from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion in 1958. The couple moved to Owatonna in 1959 where Mr. Veencamp was employed with Federated Insurance for the past 26 years.

Mr. Veencamp was a member of the Associated Church, having served both as a member of the session and long-term member of the Christian education committee. He was also a member of the Elks, the Masons, and the Owatonna Country Club. He was an avid participant in sports, most recently in the Southeastern Minnesota Tennis League and at local golf courses.

He is survived by his wife Carole and two sons, Scott and Jonathon of Minneapolis; his mother, Winnie Veencamp of Sioux Center; a sister Carol Bastemeyer of Des Moines; a brother, John Veencamp of Cherokee. He is preceded in death by his father, Paul Veencamp.

The funeral was on Jan. 25 at the Associated Church. The Rev. Stanley Johnson and the Rev. John Linde officiated. The family expressed a preference for memorials to the American Cancer Society and the Associated Church.
