Born: June 23, 1915 near Hawarden, Iowa
Died: August 22, 1984 Alcester, South Dakota

James M. Squier, 69, of Hawarden died Wednesday, August 22, in a nursing home in Alcester, S.D.

Services were at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, August 25 in the First Baptist Church of Hawarden. The Rev. Lee Christopherson officiated. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery. A prayer service was at 7:30 p.m. Friday, August 24 in the Dow Funeral Home.

Mr. Squier was born June 23, 1915, near Hawarden. He attended rural schools and graduated from Hawarden High School in 1934. He was raised on a family farm and lived there most of his life. He married Vera Heuer December 1, 1941 at Hawarden.

Mr. Squier was active in community affairs and served for six years on the Hawarden School Board. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and held several offices in the church. He was a 50-year member of the choir and served as director. He was affiliated with the Gideon Society.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Mrs. L.A. (ClarAnne) Dixon of Spirit Lake; one son, Mark of Sioux City; three sisters, Mrs. Evelyn Coddington of Littleton, CO., Mrs. Esther Sanders of Palo Alto, CA., and Mrs. Helen Henning of Ocala, Florida; and six grandchildren.
