Joe Kroese was born in Orange City, Iowa, on November 30, 1896 After a residence of 9 years at Horink Iowa, the family moved to the Hull vicinity. There he was joined in marriage to Alice Brummel on February 2, 1921. They farmed near Hull until 1934, at which time they moved to a farm near Boyden. On January 7, 1954, they retired in Hull, In the early morning of February 15, the Lord took him away in his sleep having attained the age of 59 years, 2 months and 15 days.
He is survived by his wife, Alice; three children, James; Johanna (Mrs. Sidney Westra) both of Hull and Albert J. of Boyden;. 6 grandchildren; five brothers and 6 sisters; John of Hull; Bessie (Mrs. Pater Stienstra) ol Redlands, Cal.; Peter of Hull; Ivan of Orange City; William: Gertrude (Mrs. John Van Otterloo); Nellie (Mrs. Evelyn Marra); Wilma (Mrs. Joe Miersma) all of Hull; Anna (Mrs. Louis Wielinga) of Boyden; Charles, Jr., of Hull, and many more distant relatives.
He was preceded in death by an infant son; and by his parents. His father on May 10, 1938 and his mother on October 4, 1955.
Funeral services were held Sep 18, one o’clock at the home and 1:30 at the Christian Reformed church with Rev. H. C. Van.Deelen officiating. A male quartet composed of Thomas Mulder, Timon Roetman. Lewis Van Ginkel and Bernard Vande Griend sang "Thou Art My Shepherd." . Peter J:. Vis,.William H. Kooiker, Gerald Kroese. Gerrit Brummel, Ivan Stienstra and Chas. P. Kroese, nephews of the deceased, served as pallbearers Interment was made in Hope Cemetery with the arrangements made by the Funeral directors, Van Etten and Kraai.
Mr. Kroese was active in church and community affairs. He served on the Consistory of the local Chr. Ref. Church as well as on various Coop Boards and was at present a member of the local Creamery board.
