Mr. Jack Van Rooyen, age 78, of Orange City, passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2014, at the Happy Siesta Care Center in Remsen.

There will be a memorial service on Sunday, February 9, at 2:30pm, at the Trinity Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Jonathan Opgenorth will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. There will be a prayer service on Sunday, at 1:15pm, at the
Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Visitation will be after 11:30am on Sunday, with the family present from 11:30am to 1:00pm, at the funeral home.

Jacob Leroy was born on April 7, 1935, in Orange City, the son of Walter and Nellie (Fonkert) Van Rooyen. He was raised near Newkirk and graduated from the Orange City High School.

On December 12, 1952, he married Marie Louise Kroeze in Orange City. They made their home in Orange City, where he was employed by the Vogel Paint and Wax Company for eighteen years. He then established Jack’s Painting, which specialized in striping parking lots. Marie passed away on March 29, 1992, in Sioux City.

On December 31, 1993, he married Willie Lee Godfrey Aalberts in Orange City. They continued to live in Orange City. Willie passed away on June 27, 2011, in Spirit Lake.

On June 6, 2011, Jack became a resident of Happy Siesta.

He was a member of the Trinity Reformed Church, where he served on the consistory as a deacon and gave people rides to worship services.

He served as a volunteer fireman for many years, and he belonged to the chain crew for Maurice-OrangeCity High School and Northwestern College in Orange City football games for 25 years.

Survivors include his six children and their spouses, Jackie and Bob Buckley, of Waterloo; Brad and Ardis Van Rooyen, of Eldridge; Tom and Diane Van Rooyen, of Hudson, South Dakota; Jeff and Cindy Van Rooyen, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Becky and Keith Beezhold, of Chesapeake, Virginia; and Patty and Mark Bockelman, of Napoleon, Ohio; nineteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and three on the way; two step-daughters, Bonnie Overman and Barbara, and her husband, Warren Jager; five step-grandchildren, a step-great-grandchild; and three sisters, Leora, and her husband, Leland De Haan; and Irene Pennings, all of Orange City; and Kathleen Rozeboom, of Sioux Center.

In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Daniel Van Rooyen, a step-son, Michael Aalberts, and a sister, Nelva Jean Van Rooyen.

Memorials will be directed to the Happy Siesta Dreams Program.
