Mr. Michael VanWyk, one of the earliest of settlers of Sioux County, passed to his reward last Monday morning, after a lingering illness of cancer of the stomach.

Mr. VanWyk was born in Marion county, near Pella, Iowa, September 20, 1851. He came to Sioux County in 1870, settling near Orange City. He was married in 1873 to Miss Grietje Dyk, who preceded him to the great beyond six years ago.

The surviving children are J.M. VanWyk and family; Mrs. Grace Oelich and family; Mrs. Johanna DeKoster and family; and Miss Sarah VanWyk of Hull; Mrs. Nellie Vos and family, of Doon; L.W. VanWyk and family of Sheldon; and A.M. VanWyk and family, of Orange City.

He is survived by three brothers and three sisters: Arie VanWyk, of Orange City; John VanWyk, of Santa Ana, California; P.H. VanWyk, of Hull; Mrs. Johanna Veen Schoten, of Boyden; Mrs. Paulina TePaske, of Three Oaks, Michigan; and Mrs. Jennie DeValois, of Boyden.

The funeral was held Thursday afternoon, April 21st, from the home and from the First Reformed Church. Revs. Kregel and Weersing officiating both the Holland and English languages being used in the service.
