Sioux Center News, April 17, 1947

Mrs. Herman Vander Wilt passed away at the Hull hospital on Wednesday evening, April 9, following an illness of about a month. She suffered a broken hip in a fall at her home and was in the hospital since that time, first at Hull, then at Sioux City and the last few days again at Hull. She had reached the age of 75 years, 6 months and 22 days.

Mrs. Vander Wilt, nee Anna Maris, was born on a farm near Maurice on Sept. 18, 1871, one of the first white babies to be born in Sioux County.

On Dec. 6, 1892 she was united in marriage to Mr. Herman Vander Wilt who now survives her with an only daughter, Mrs. J. T. De Boer, two grand daughters, Mrs. Herman De Vries and Mrs. Wm. R. Beernink and one great granddaughter Vicky Lee Beernink. She is further survived by the following brothers and sisters: Arie Maris of Grover, CO; Mrs. William Vander Wilt of Morgan, MN; Hubert Maris of Sheldon; Mrs. Charles Dyke of Orange City; Mrs. John Erkes of Orange City; Dr. Gerrit Maris of Hull; Mrs. Libby Draayom of Sheldon; John Maris of Bellflower, CA; Dr. William Maris of Sioux Center and Mrs. Gerrit Draayom of Sheldon.

After her marriage to Mr. Vander Wilt the family first made their home on a farm near Middleburg for two years, then they moved to a farm northeast of Sioux Center where they made their home for 15 years. They then retired and moved into town where they have been living for the past 38 years. They enjoyed married life for 54 years.

Funeral services were held on Saturday afternoon at one o'clock at the home and at 1:30 at the First Reformed Church, with Rev. L. A. Brunsting officiating. Burial took place at the local cemetery and acting as pall bearers were John Ver Burg; Gerrit Doornwaard; Paul Van Donge, Fred Aue, Cy Hulstein and Hein Vreeman.

She was a member of the First Reformed Church and was also a member of the Senior Ladies Aid Society of that church. The members of this society attended the services in a body.
