Sioux County Capital, March 3, 1994

Mrs. Jennie Vander Wilt, age 90, of Orange City died Monday, Feb. 28, 1994 at the Orange City hospital.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 3, at the First Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Thomas Vander Zouwen and the Rev. Marlin Vander Wilt will officiate. Interment will follow at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City.

Jennie was born July 13, 1903 at Hospers, the daughter of Jacob & Minnie (Ravestein) Van Oort. She was raised at Newkirk. Upon reaching adulthood she moved to Orange City where she became a telephone operator.

On March 26, 1924 she married Adrian Vander Wilt at Orange City. They farmed at Boyden until 1948 when they moved to an acreage near Orange City. Mr. Vander Wilt died Nov. 29, 1971 at Orange City.

In February of 1991, Mrs. Vander Wilt became a resident of the Pioneer Memorial Home in Orange City, and in January of 1993 she transferred to the Heritage House Nursing Home.

She was a member of the First Reformed Church of Orange City.

Survivors include her two sons and their wives, Jack & Elynor Vander Wilt of Orange City, and the Rev. Marlin & Judith Vander Wilt of Sarasota, FL; seven grandchildren, Jay Vander Wilt and his wife Jill of Manchester; Gayle and her husband Steve Newby of West Chester, OH; Jaclyn Vander Wilt of Sioux Falls, SD; Jeffrey Vander Wilt of South Bend, IN; Chris Vander Wilt and his wife Darlene of Des Moines; Jenny and her husband Steve Van Hook of Austin, TX, and Michael Vander Wilt of Holland, MI; seven great-grandchildren, and a sister, Coba Wielenga of Orange City.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Peter and John Van Oort; and two sisters, Effie Van Oort and Reka Fikse.
