Sioux County Capital of Nov 28, 1978

Mr. John A. Kreykes, age 75, of Orange City, passed away Saturday, November 25, at the Orange City Municipal Hospital. He had been ill about a year.

John was born September 13,1903, near Hospers, the son of Arie J. and Mattie Reitsema Kreykes. He married Martina Reinsma January 25, 1928, at Orange City. They farmed in the Hospers and Orange City areas, moving to Orange City in 1950.

John was a member of Calvary Christian Reformed Church for 40 years, serving on the consistoryfor many of those years. He was an active supporter of Christian education, especially Unity Christian High School.

Survivors include his wife; children, Donald and Coral Kreykes, and John and Marvella Woltjer, all of Grand Rapids, Michigan; 9 grandchildren; brothers, William, of Primghar, and Joe; and sisters, Mrs. James (Hattie) Woudstra, Mrs. Nick (Stella) Verbrugge, and Mrs. Elmer (Jeanette) Wiersema, all of Orange City.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 28, at Calvary Christian Reformed Church of Orange City. The Rev. John Ebbers and the Rev, Gerrit Docter officiated. Interment was at West Lawn Cemetery, under the direction of the Van Etten- Oolraan Funeral Home in Orange City. Casket bearers were neighbors, Bud Van Otterloo, Dan M. Wrather, Vernon Mouw, Alfred Bomgaars, Louis P. Wielenga, and Ralph Gebauer. Grandson Tom Van Wingerden sang "Great Is Thy Faithfulness" and "All the Way My Savior Leads Me", accompanied by Mrs. Frances Duven. Mrs. Joyce Bloemendaal played the organ.
