Albert John Kroese, 79, of Hull died Monday, July 7, at his residence. Funeral service was Thursday at 10 a.m. at First Christian Reformed Church in Hull. The Rev. Paul Hansen and the Rev. Carl Klompien officiated. Interment was at the Hope Cemetery in Hull.

Kroese was born on June 20,1929, at Hull, the son of Joe and Alice (Brummel) Kroese. He was raised at Hull, where he attended a country school and graduated from Western Christian High School. He then served in the U. S. Marine Corps from 1951 to 1953. On November 12, 1953, he married Florence Ruth Wissink in Middleburg. They made their home on the Kroese family farm, where he had lived since the age of five. After farming for 19 years, he was with Farmers Mutual Insurance for 22 years. In 1985, they moved into Hull.

He was a lifetime member of First Christian Reformed Church, where he served on the consistory, taught catechism classes, was a Cadet leader, sang in the choir and belonged to the Berean Society. He promoted Christian education by serving on the boards of directors of Hull Christian School and Western Christian High School and the voting board of Dordt College in Sioux Center. He also sang in the Kroese Quartet. He loved following his grandchildren's activities, and he enjoyed farming and meeting people through his association with Farmers Mutual.

He was an avid sports fan. He was also a member of the Wegman-Koele American Legion Post. Survivors include his wife of more than 54 years; three children and their spouses, Carol and Hank Vande Kraats of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, Jay and Lydia Kroese of Plymouth, Minnesota, and Emily and James Lund of Northfield, Minnesota; a daughter-in-law, Sandy Kroese of Boyden; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Johanna Westra of Hull; a sister- in-law, Janet Kroese of Hull; his wife's two sisters and their husbands, Bernice and Tom Mulder of Sheldon and Gladys and Harry Link of Sioux Falls; and her two brothers, John Wissink of Spring Lake, Michigan, and Sherman Wissink and his wife Goldene of Sioux Center.

He was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Kroese; a brother, James Kroese; and a brother-in-law, Sid Westra. Memorials may be directed to Hull Christian School, Western Christian High School or the Bible League.
