Peter Vander Wilt, Jr. 40 of Sioux Center died in Chamberlain, South Dakota.

Memorial services were Tuesday, October 19, at Alton Reformed Church with the Rev. Roger Voskuil and the Rev. Robert Vander Schaaf officiating. Burial was at the Nassau Township Cemetery, near Alton.

Vander Wilt was born September 20, 1953, at Orange City, the son of Peter Gerard & Florence Rosa (Rienstra) Vander Wilt. He was raised at Alton, where he graduated from Floyd Valley High School. He then served in the United States Army. He married Debra Else at Alton in July 1974. He lived at Alton, Granville, Orange City and Sioux Center. He had worked at Banner Beef in Hospers and the Alton Rendering Works. He was currently employed by the Farmer's Co-Operative Elevator in Sioux Center.

He was a baptized member of Alton Reformed Church and a member of the National Rifle Association. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Survivors include his son, Michael Thomas, of Wayne, Nebraska; mother and stepfather, Florence & Tony Driesen of Orange City; three sisters, Audrey and her husband Clifford Vander Zwaag and Jan and her husband Kenn Top, all of Englewood, Colorado, and Lila, and her husband Scott Simmelink of Orange City; two brothers, Gary and his wife Vicky of Eldora and Daryl of Sioux Center; three stepbrothers, Art, John and Alvin Driesen of Sunnyside, Washington; a stepsister, Marlene Brink of Caledonia, Michigan; 12 nieces and nephews; and a great-nephew.

He was preceded in death by his father, Peter, Sr.; brother-in-law, Gregory Wayne Oldenkamp; and paternal and maternal grandparents.
