Sioux Center News, November 14, 1946

Orange City - Gerrit Vander Wilt, son of the late Mr. & Mrs. Arnold Vander Wilt, was born March 12, 1885. On Feb. 21, 1912, he was united in marriage to Gertrude Van Es of Newkirk. After their marriage they farmed near Newkirk until 1936. Then they moved to Alton where Mr. Vander Wilt was engaged in the trucking business until he had to retire on account of illness in 1943. They moved to O.C., and in these last years he passed through times of serious illness, because of a heart ailment, and special strain was realized when their son, Arnold, met death as a casualty of World War II.

Mr. Vander Wilt passed on evidently without a struggle while sleeping, Wednesday, Nov. 6. He is survived by his wife and four children, namely: Arta (Mrs. Henry Plender); Peter of Alton; Clifford and Anna Mae still at home. Also surviving are three sisters and four brothers: Mrs. L. W. Van Wyk, Mrs. Elmer Oelrich, Joe, Arnold and Art in California; Henry of Sibley and Mrs. Harry Dykstra of O.C. There are four grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Trinity Ref. Church, O.C. of which he was a communicant member. Rev. R. Ongna officiated. Interment was made in the Orange City cemetery.
