Memorial services for Stanley E. Straatsma, age 59, were at Temple Terrace Presbyterial Church in Florida on Thursday, January 15, with reception following at the residence of Dr. & Mrs. A. S. Harper.

Straatsma died of cancer on January 10 at his winter residence, 7834 Niagara, Tampa, Florida 33617.

Straatsma was born in Sioux Center on January 31, 1927. He was a prominent resident of Iowa Falls for 37 years. Straatsma graduated from the University of Iowa where he was a four year letterman in basketball and then taught and coached in Iowa Falls for six years. He had retired from Bankers Life Company as an insurance broker on January 1, 1986.

Among many community projects, Straatsma was an active member of the Ellsworth College Board of Trustees for 22 years, a director of Pioneer Federal Savings and Loan and a major key in the development of Calkins Campus.

He is survived by his wife Sylvia; two sons, Steven and Timothy, both of Tampa, Florida; his mother of Holland, Michigan; a brother, Glen an oncologist in Fairbanks, Alaska; and a sister, Alma of Maywood, New Jersey.
