Arthur B. Kooiker; 77, of Sun City, Ariz., formerly of Rock Rapids and Hull, died Thursday, Nov. 30, at the Pella Community Hospital of complications following heart surgery. The funeral service was held Monday, Dec. 4, at the First Reformed Church in Rock Rapids with the Rev. Gary Vande Kamp and the Rev. William De Young officiating. A private grave side service for the immediate family was held at Hope Cemetery in Hull. The services were arranged by the Kraai-Oolman Funeral Home in Hull.

Arthur Benjamin Kooiker who was known as "Art," was born April 10,1918, at Hull, the son of L. R. and Pearl (De Wild) Kooiker. On Jan. 6,1937, he married Billie Sieperda at Sioux Center. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He owned and operated Kooiker Chevrolet in Hull and Rock Rapids with his father for over 50 years. He was very active in a variety of civic activities in both Hull and Rock Rapids, and he continued that service during his retirement years in Sun City. He was currently a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Sun City, acting as both elder and deacon. In earlier years, he had been active in the American Reformed Church of Hull and the First Reformed Church of Rock Rapids. He served on a variety of committees and as a Sunday School teacher, deacon and elder.

Survivors include his wife; seven children and their spouses, Sharon and Van Christenson of Edina, Minn., Arloa and Nelson Hymans of Omaha, Neb., Lyle and Pat Kooiker of Marengo, Wayne and Sue Kooiker of Orange City, Rhonna and Glenn Fiihr of Sully, Kevin and Ann Kooiker of Big Lake, Minn., and Lori and Mark Ellingson of Pella; 20 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; two step-great grandchildren; a sister and her husband, Alberta and the Rev. Henry Vermeer of Pella; and a brother, Dr. Anthony Kooiker of Holland.Mich.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Ruth Ann, and an infant grandson, Blake Ellingson. Memorials are being directed to Inter Faith Services, P. 0. Box 1795, Sun City, Ariz. 85372.
