George Remko Kooi, Sr., 95, of Sioux Center died Monday, November 22, at the Sioux Center Community Hospital and Health Center. Services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Lebanon Christian Reformed Church In rural Sioux Center with the Rev. Robert Drenton officiating. Burial was in the Lebanon Cemetery.

Kooi was born to Remko and Grada (Kastein) Kooi on August 24, 1904 one-half mile west of Lebanon. He attended school to the eighth grade at Lebanon Christian and country schools. He married Margretha (Greta) Vos on February 12, 1930, in Hawarden. They farmed just west of Lebanon until retiring to Sioux Center in 1966. He enjoyed helping his sons farm until he was 77 years old.

He was a member of Lebanon Christian Reformed Church and served as elder and deacon. He also served as a Christian School Board member, trustee for Garfield township and a Sioux Center Creamery Board member. He loved all aspects of the farm, tractors, machinery and livestock. He enjoyed going to the Senior Citizen Center, traveling and singing Dutch hymns.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Lane and Margaret of Sioux Center and George and Judy of Harrisburg, South Dakota; four daughters, Grada and John Van Ballegooyen of West Hawarden, South Dakota, Alida and Marvin Scholten of Maurice, Margene and Tennis Fluit of Larchwood and Linda and Kenneth Altena of Sioux Center; 31 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; two great-great- grandchildren; and two sisters. Bertha Vander Lugt and Jennie Haverhals, both of Sioux Center.

He was preceded in death by five brothers, Peter, Ben, Fred, John and Ellis; two sisters, Dreaka and Gertie; and one grandson in Infancy.
